The format was simple enough, three games of progressively more points with some bound monsters from Storm of Magic. There were interesting scenarios for each round and some clear thought had gone into them. Perhaps the biggest twist was an auction of models donated by the participants and others in support of the aforementioned charity. About 10 lots of models and some special magic items raises £295 in total. The ability to use these new acquisitions in the latter two rounds of the event allowed us to add missile troops to lists without them, extra mages and bring some really interesting, fan written rules to the game.
So to my games.
Round 1 was a close fought affair between my warriors of chaos and a Bretonnian force. The object was to get across the board, taking as many of your opponents troops out along the way as possible. A cagey affair saw me having to rush a troll block towards two units of flaming bows. Although I lost a few along the way once they reached the archer line they made short work of it. In the other side of the table his lance rushed forth and I was all set to crash a marauder block into them when Dwellers decimated them. The plan changed to a simple mission to get them across the board but this archer scouts took them off. A solid draw was the result in the end and a fair result it was.
Game 2 was against a lizardman list with an added hero from the auction. Dice didn't help me in the game but that's no excuse. His Saurus cav block rushed me and dis a fair bit of damage with posioned shots accounting for more than they should have. A quirk of the scenario involving mist effectively ruled my two hell cannons out of the game and with my oppo calling time on the game a little early it was a painful defeat
Round three was against a very nicely painted Empire list with a terrifying Warpfire Dragon. This alone could have torn apart my army but combined with some shocking rolls on my part and a charmed steam tank saw me in trouble. I should have mentioned as well that my DP lasted one turn. Then he became a frog. Then he died. I'd forgotten Hex scroll existed! Anyway- it was a poor showing from my woc but a great event. Cheers to Warren for organising and long live 8th ed warhammer!
